BURN designs, manufactures, and distributes aspirational fuel-efficient cooking products that save lives and forests in the developing world.BURN has revolutionized the global cookstove sector by proving the business case for selling a high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized cookstoves.Since 2013, BURN has sold 200,000+ high quality, locally manufactured and unsubsidized jikokoas â„¢ stoves in East Africa. These stoves have helped 1,000,000+ beneficiaries save $39 million in fuel expenditures and 626,221 tons of wood while reducing indoor air pollution by 65%. BURN currently sells ~10,000 stoves per month and intend to double sales by the end of 2017.

  • BURN is looking to hire a dedicated Grant Writer for our organization, who is responsible for managing all aspects of the proposal development process. You will report to the Senior Grants Manager and apply your knowledge to write winning proposals. You will collaborate and develop relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, such as the Finance, Sales, and Product Development departments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the proposal development process – incl. developing the technical narrative, M&E, development of budgets and budget narratives, required annexes, etc.
  • Researching and developing a grants portfolio, including solicited and unsolicited opportunities.
  • Supporting the full grant cycle, including solicitation, proposal writing, implementation, monitoring, compliance, reporting, and close-out.
  • Directly manages timelines and the overall progression of work undertaken by internal teams to ensure the on-time completion and submission of high-quality application packages.
  • Developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Keep supervisor informed of any projected inabilities to meet report submission. Be able to actively mitigate risks through proposing remedial solutions.

Skills and Experience:

  • At least five (5) years of grant writing/reporting experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to think strategically, to work with diverse teams, to work in multi-cultural settings and with a high degree of independence.
  • Demonstrated track record of winning solicited and unsolicited grants, from a diverse range of organizations.
  • Strong project management, communication, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Strong M&E skills, able to build frameworks and track and monitor deliverables.
  • Experience developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Excellent PowerPoint, Word, and Excel skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken English essential
