Qualification

Education, Skills and Experience

Must have:

  • Must possess a minimum of a Diploma in Agriculture or Animal Health & Production or related area
  • Must have two years’ experience in farm management or in a similar position
  • Must be Computer Literate

Key responsibilities also include

Reporting to: Campus Registrar, Administration, Finance and Marketing

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide technical supervision on all livestock and crop agriculture activities in the demonstration farm. Specifically:
  • Ensure routine animal care programs including treatments and vaccinations
  • Ensure implementation and monitoring of functional and effective biosecurity measures
  • Ensure loading and offloading of animals in accordance with established animal welfare practices; and quarantine of all new animals
  • Ensure the observance of the five animal freedoms on all occasions
  • Anticipate and plan for the appropriate handling of any emergencies that may affect the farm animals
  • Ensure planting and maintenance of crops in the greenhouse and farm fields for training and income generation purpose.
  • Ensure fodder production, supply, preservation, and utilization for training and production purposes
  • Provide space and support students and staff setting up experiments in the open fields and greenhouse
  • Keep an inventory of all livestock and crop activities and provide regular reports on all farm activities (production and training)
  • Organize and maintain in functional state all farm property and equipment
  • Keep a register of all visits to the farm clearly indicating purpose, number and outcome of such visits
  • Generate annual farm budget estimates and projected revenues for continued improvement of the farm as a training facility as well as an income-generating activity
  • In liaison with course unit lecturers organize, schedule, and ensure field practical’s sessions taking place at the training farm are effectively carried out
  • Carry out any other duty as may assigned by the immediate supervisor.
