Assistant Director of Public Communications

The Anti- Female Genital Mutilation Board is a state corporation under the Ministry of Gender, Culture, The Arts and Heritage responsible for implementing the prohibition of Female Mutilation Genital Mutilation Act, 2011. The Board invites applications from qualified persons for the following vacant position(s):

Assistant Director, Public Communications (AFGM 4)- Vacancy No. AFGM/3/2023 (1post)-Permanent and Pensionable

a. Duties and Responsibilities

i. Coordinating development, implementation and review of the Board’s communication policies, strategies, guidelines and procedures;
 ii. Spearheading development and implementation of the Board’s communications strategy;
 iii. Facilitating promotion of the corporate image and branding of the Board;
iv. Providing technical advice on matters corporate communication; facilitating review of media activities in relation to the Board and responding where appropriate;
v. Establishing and managing a customer care desk to handle queries from general public, media, special interest groups and other components of the Board’s stakeholder ecosystem;
vi. Managing and coordinating corporate and media events and activities;
vii. Overseeing preparation of the website content and updates in collaboration with ICT;
viii. Managing the Board’s social media platforms by providing accurate information and engaging the Board’s online audience;
 ix. Coordinating final editing of the Board’s official communication, publishing, producing and disseminating to the public through newsletters, press releases, supplements, opinions, commentaries, annual reports, speeches, publications, website contents, reports and outreach materials;
x. Conducting customer satisfaction surveys;
xi. Spearheading identification of potential issues that may affect the reputation of the Board’s and engage in proactive damage control; formulating feedback mechanisms for the Board’s and its stakeholders;
xii. Preparing progress reports of the division;
xiii. Planning and budgeting for the division; and
xiv. Building capacity and managing performance of the division.

b. Requirements for Appointment

i. Twelve (12) years cumulative experience, four (4) of which should have been at Principal Public Communications Officer or a comparable position in a reputable organization;
ii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: - Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution; OR
iii. Bachelor’s degree in any of the Social Sciences plus a Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
iv. Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Marketing or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
v. Leadership Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage;
vi. Be a member to a relevant professional body;
vii. Proficiency in relevant computer applications and
viii. Demonstrated outstanding and professional competence in corporate communication work as reflected in work performance and results.

c. Essential Skills and Competencies
 i. Oral and written communication skills.
 ii. Interpersonal skills.
